These days people are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental impact of the things they buy.

As a direct response to today's throwaway society, the aim of The Painted Forest is to make individual one off pieces from locally reclaimed furniture that would otherwise be discarded.

As an illustrator, I began to look at new textures and shapes to work with and started to play around with pieces of furniture. I love the unique character that each old piece brings to the new design.

This site is still in its infancy - each piece takes time! - but I hope to gradually add more pieces and am particularly excited about the prospect of including a children's range based on nursery rhymes and fairytales.

Inspired by traditional Swedish folk art, Bird Table features two song birds, flowers and trees. Finished with clear varnish and eggshell paint in duck egg.
